Teardown of iPhone SE 2020

A video was uploaded by Wenzhou Ao Technology, in the video, they took the iPhone SE 2020 and the 2018 iPhone 8 and compared them side by side in many ways. And interestingly, they are more similar than you can think.

The Original Video is in Mandarin. You can watch it with English Subtitles

The host in the video started the whole teardown of iPhone SE 2020 by taking out the sim tray and then taking out the display. Then it is seen that he brought an already opened iPhone 8.

When observed, the internals of iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 8 are exactly the same. No changes in the placement of speakers, cameras battery, antennas, haptic engines, and not even a slight change in the motherboard layout.

The host also placed the display of iPhone SE 2020 on the iPhone 8 and as the display panels are the same for both the devices, it worked on the iPhone 8.

Another interesting thing in the video is that the host replaced the motherboard of iPhone SE 2020 with the motherboard of the iPhone 8 and since the battery connectors were different for both of the devices, the host had to make a temporary connection.

The shocking thing is after the connection was established in the device, the iPhone SE 2020 seemed to work fine. Everything except the camera that couldn’t work with the A11 Bionic chip. The rear camera was blank however, the front camera worked fine.

Conclusion

Teardown of iPhone SE 2020 clearly reveals that it is iPhone 11’s chipset in an iPhone 8 body. That is also one of the reasons why it is so affordable. The company didn’t have to establish new production resources, they have everything in place.

They can easily manufacture iPhone 8 hardware components as they won’t need to establish a new production line for them and then place A13 Bionic chipset on the phone. That is why the smartphone is so affordable.
