Reliance Jio is developing a low-cost budget-friendly laptop, which will reportedly be known as Reliance JioBook, and will run on JioOS, a forked version of Google’s Android OS. Jio is one of the top mobile network operators in India, with more than 100M subscribers.
Reliance Jio has already been into the industry like smartphones, mobile routers, etc. Reliance Jio is the one who took the initiative to introduce low-cost LTE network across the country. So, technically Reliance Jio always grabs the opportunity to provide world-class service in a very affordable pricing.
We already have seen similar news emerging that Reliance Jio is working on a laptop(s) (The Economics Time, 2018) but it was never a piece of confirmatory information, but this time (via XDA) looks like we do have a good possibility of a Reliance Jio branded laptop very soon.
According to XDA, the Reliance JioBook might come in the first half of the year 2021. The pricing and the availability of the laptop are still in the shadow, but we do a few expected specifications of the upcoming Reliance Jio branded laptop aka JioBook.
First of all, the laptop will reportedly run on the JioOS, which is basically a forked version of Google’s Android. The consequences are still unknown as the in the laptop market, Microsoft’s Windows 10 still owns the crown. It will be pretty tough to compete with already succeeded OS. But again, we already seen the success of KaiOS is Jio feature phone. Although the custom OS didn’t have much to discuss but in a country like India, people give preference to price rather than other major spec of any device.
But according to the Engineering Validation Sample (via XDA), the device still have a Windows key, that’s means Jio is reconsidering the use of JioOS instead Windows. Well, we will have to wait for any official annoucement to confirm that.
Other specs include a HD-ready display means 720p, comes with a screen resolution of 1366×768 pixel, the actual size of the display is still unknown, but looking at the images, it may be in between 13-14-inch.
The laptop will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC (aka sm6125) which was announced back in early 2019. It is a 11nm SoC, which is paired with the Snapdragon X12 for 4G LTE connectivity.
Other than that the laptop will have two different RAM/ROM variants. The base variant will have 2GB LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of eMMC onboard storage and the top variant will have 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM paired with 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.
Other features options include a mini HDMI connector, WiFi over 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies, Bluetooth, a three-axis accelerometer, and a Qualcomm audio chip.
Well, the specs aren’t great but if it comes in a price range of 10,000-15,000 INR, then it will be a great deal. Again, for that, we will have to wait for any official announcement. The PVT, or the Product Validation Test is scheduled for upcoming mid-April, so let’s wait and we will come back with other information about the Reliance JioBook.
