Apple is already working hard to introduce its flagship successor, the iPhone 12. The new iPhone 12 Pro is expected to be announced with a significant design change. With analysts predicting the new iPhone and iPads with a 3D Scanner, the predictions have been partially confirmed this week when the 2020 iPad Pro was unveiled with a LiDAR.

From the front, a larger display is expected for both versions (6.1-inch and 6.7-inch) of the new iPhone and a different arrangement of cameras at the back. The reason for this change will be a special LiDAR scanner.

The iPhone 12 Pro is expected to have 3 lenses with a 3D Scanner which will allow the device to take 3D scans of locations providing a bigger deal to developers who want to create immense augmented reality experiences.

The obvious place for the LiDAR scanner is in the corner of the square with an LED flash in the middle. For now, it the coolest feature one could have expected in the iPhone 12 Pro.

Apple catching up the Samsung cameras

Apple says the LiDAR scanner in the 2020 iPad makes it “the world’s best device for augmented reality.” The technology works on the time of flight (ToF) principle. This Technology will sharpen the photos after they are taken. iPhone 12 Pro can now easily catch up with the Samsung cameras offering a feature that allows shooting video with a blurry background just like shooting on a portrait.

If Apple follows its usual release cadence the device is expected to be announced in September, although there is high probability that the current corona virus pandemic will push it back.
