We already have seen a bunch of devices from various manufacturers sporting fold-able display and seems like Microsoft also want to come in the race to provide these to their customers.
The latest report from Forbes tells that Microsoft is preparing to reveal their foldable surface PC late this year with a codename Centaurus. Forbes says that Microsoft’s foldable Surface PC will sport two 9-inch displays with a 4:3 aspect ratio, along with a 10nm Lakefield Intel processor.
A recent tweet from David Breyer also shows some renders of upcoming Microsoft’s Foldable Surface PC.
Furthermore, London-based information provider IHS Markit claims that the device would rely on Microsoft’s upcoming foldable-friendly version of Windows 10, would be able to support Android and iCloud apps.
Other details cited by IHS Markit include:
- Will use Windows 10 OS new version — WCOS (Windows Core OS) — for dual display UI (User Interface)
- Adopt Intel 10 nanometer (nm) system-on-a-chip (SOC) Lakefield
- Run Android Apps and iCloud service in Windows 10
- Always on connectivity function (LTE or 5G)
According to The Verge, this is word for word what Microsoft has to say about Andromeda in the document:
It’s a new pocketable Surface device form factor that brings together innovative new hardware and software experiences to create a truly personal and versatile computing experience.
Sources who are already familiar with the project warn that the release of Andromeda is far from a sure thing and that Microsoft could opt to can it at any time.
But keeping hope isn’t the wrong way to expect something from them. So don’t get your hopes up, but know that the device is still in the works for now.
