Microsoft said a final goodbye to its beloved Windows 10 Mobile on December 10, 2019. Windows 10 Mobile, first arrived 4 years i.e., 2015 with the legendary Microsoft Lumia series smartphones like Lumia 950, 950 XL and 550.

It was then considered as one of the best mobile OS platforms defeating many mobile-based OSs like Blackberry OS and even Symbian OS. It is heartbreaking news that the project by Microsoft couldn’t survive along with Android and iOS by Google and Apple respectively.

Let us see where it actually came from. First windows mobile OS based smartphone was introduced by Nokia by the name Nokia Lumia 800 which used to run on Windows Phone 7.5 with a codename, ‘Mango’. Before that Nokia device was used to run on J2ME based Symbian operating system.

It was a good success for Nokia with a completely new mobile operating system. Nokia slowly got a good market share with Nokia Lumia devices. Then Nokia traded all the smartphone shares to Microsoft.

Microsoft produced a variety of different smartphones based on Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile.

Windows 10 Mobile showed us very different and unique features which were not there in the smartphone market. That live tiles feature was actually a revolutionary feature. There were a lot of features that were unique and revolutionary.

There were a lot of reasons for Windows Phone’s failure which Microsoft didn’t take seriously at that time like its approach to licensing Windows Phone, partners like Samsung not launching cutting-edge Windows Phone handsets, and Microsoft’s failure to attract app developers.

But there is something that is not heartbreaking, the Office apps for Windows 10 Mobile phones will continue to be supported until January 12, 2021.
