Rename Update.exe File

Sometimes, it is an old update executable file that causes this error. You can easily resolve this by just renaming the Update.exe file. Here is how to do it: 

Step 1: Open File Explorer and navigate to the following path: “C:\Users\Username\AppData

Step 2: Inside the AppData folder, open the Local folder. 

Step 3: Inside the folder, navigate and find the Discord folder. Once you find it, open it as well.

Step 4: Here, navigate and select the Update.exe file, right-click on it and click on Rename

Step 5: Rename it as “UpdateX.exe

Disable Any Third-Party Antivirus

If you are using any third-party antivirus, chances are that is causing the Discord update failed error on your PC. You can disable it and then try updating your Discord. 

Now different antiviruses have different methods of disabling. The most common and easy one is to just kill the antivirus process from the Task Manager. You can try it or you can also search on the internet about how to disable your antivirus.

Disable Your VPN

A lot of creators and streamers use VPN to hide their physical location. Although, sometimes it is crucial if you are living in a country that has a lot of restrictions and for safety.

Reinstall Discord

Now, this is not your normal uninstallation process so follow the steps carefully:

Step 1: Press the “ctrl+alt+delete” keys and select Task Manager

Step 2: Under the Processes tab, navigate and select Discord. 

Step 3: Once you select Discord, click on End task. Do this for all Discord processes.

Step 4: Now go to the Windows Search Bar, type “Control Panel” and hit enter. 

Step 5: Click on Programs and Features

Step 6: Here, right-click on Discord, then click on Uninstall

Step 7: Close everything and then press the “Windows+R” keys to open the Run dialog box. 

Step 8: Type “%appdata%” and hit enter.

Step 9: Locate the Discord folder and delete it. 

Step 10: Open the Run Dialog box again, type “%localappdata%” and hit enter.

Step 11: Locate and delete the Discord folder from here as well.  

Now restart your computer. 

Once your computer opens, you can download and install Discord from the scratch again. This should fix the issue for you.
