Launched on April 24, the first wave of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders had significant technical issues. High demand created problems for major stores like Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and Target, which left many players unhappy.
Nintendo is implementing a second phase of pre-orders via a selective invite system in reaction. This round is meant to give devoted fans a better chance to acquire the new console before the official release on June 5th.
How the Invite-Only System Works
Users who expressed interest on their official website are getting email invites from Nintendo. These emails are going out only to players who satisfy two key criteria:
- A 12-month Nintendo Switch Online subscription still in use
- At least 50 hours of play recorded on their current Switch console
If you meet both conditions, keep a close watch on your inbox. Once you receive an invite, you’ll have 72 hours to complete your Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order before your spot is released to others.
Those who get an invitation also get first access to pre-order games and accessories via Nintendo’s website.
This covers the much-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube-style controller, which will only be available to invitees until May 13th. It might then open to all Switch Online members—only if supplies last.
