CEO Pete Lau revealed in an interview that OnePlus is intending to make a comeback to the budget market section by launching OnePlus Affordable Smartphones. The company intends to make an announcement regarding the same in India soon, they have also planned to bring their ‘lower-priced’ devices to European and North American markets later this year. By bringing affordable smartphones the Shenzhen-based organization might make things harder for Xiaomi that has gained gigantic success for selling low-priced smartphones.
“We can look at it as having a more affordable product offering,” Lau said in the interview with Fast Company, “but all products that still remain up to the OnePlus standard… and through this enabling more people to have access to OnePlus products.”
OnePlus Affordable Smartphones in India Soon
OnePlus began by releasing the OnePlus One in April 2014. The principal model was anticipated as a “flagship killer” by the organization, and it was an affordable smartphone. It was launched in India at Rs. 21,999, which was essentially less expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung’s flagship of that time, that started at Rs. 51,500 and the iPhone 6 that showed up as the most recent iPhone model in 2014 with a beginning cost of Rs. 53,500.
However, OnePlus has changed its situation from being a maker of moderate smartphones to a pioneer in the top-notch market. According to a report by analyst firm Counterpoint Research, the company led the premium smartphone market in India a year ago by beating Apple and Samsung with a 33 per cent share. The most recent OnePlus models, which are the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, are estimated between Rs. 41,999 and Rs. 59,999.
Lau didn’t mean that OnePlus would quit making better high-end models. Though, it was obvious with his interview that the company wouldn’t like to remain in the top-notch market alone and has plans to develop further with its reasonable future models.
OnePlus declined to give clarity on its new strategy towards bringing affordable smartphones when Gadgets 360 connected through an email.
In a tweet from Lau, we can have a look on the ‘big plans’ the company has planned to carry out.
