Microsoft had big plans with Windows 10X and they primarily wanted it to use on the dual-screen laptops as it was aimed to create a seamless experience for dual-screen laptops. They also demonstrated its use on the dual-screen Surface Neo. But now it seems that Microsoft is shifting its plans and we will see the first Windows 10X on single-screen laptops.

Windows 10X in Single-Screen Laptops

This is mainly due to all the chaos that is caused by COVID-19 and Panos Panay, Windows and Devices Chief at Microsoft took some time to explain it through a blog post that the world has become quite different since the company shared its vision for dual-screen devices.

Panay wrote,” With Windows 10X, we designed for flexibility, and that flexibility has enabled us to pivot our focus toward single-screen Windows 10X devices that leverage the power of the cloud to help our customers work, learn and play in new ways.”

It is not confirmed by Microsoft when will the Windows 10X arrive on single-screen or dual-screen devices but it is confirmed that it’ll come on the single-screen laptops first. Panay further added,” These single-screen devices will be the first expression of Windows 10X that we deliver to our customers, and we will continue to look for the right moment, in conjunction with our OEM partners, to bring dual-screen devices to market. ”

The main reason for this is the COVID-19 Pandemic and because of it, Microsoft is observing a 75 percent year-over-year increase in time spent on Windows 10. And because of this lockdown scenario, people are using the Windows 10 more and more because they are accessing their PCs, tablets for work, study, and entertainment purposes.

Windows has a more simple and cool user interface which is mainly designed for devices with two screens like the Surface Neo on which it was first demonstrated. Microsoft is working on the UI and UX to enhance the user experience with Windows 10X.
