There are some really good smart assistants on smartphones these days, we have Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, Siri which is Apple exclusive, then you have Bixby too. Well, Bixby is not one of the best smart assistants that you can ask. However, the good news is that Google is in talks with Samsung for a deal to have more access to Samsung phones.

Google Assistant to Replace Bixby

The deal is reported by Bloomberg and Google is in talks with Samsung for a deal that would allow Google’s services “more prominence” on Samsung phones.

Google Assistant

The deal aims to promote Google Assistant over Bixby and Google Play Store over Galaxy Store on Samsung smartphones. Samsung is one of the biggest popular Android smartphone makers and they run their own software atop Android.

If Google Assistant replaces Bixby, it is obviously very good news as Bixby is good but nowhere close to Google Assistant. And if the deal is finalized, Google will have more control on Samsung smartphones, that will most probably take a toll on Samsung’s own services.

As of now the terms and valuation of the deal are unknown but we can expect Google to throw some heavy capital on this deal in particular. Samsung already faced the backlash when it added a dedicated button for Bixby on the Galaxy S8 and after the backlash, it stopped with the Galaxy Note 10.

“Like all Android device makers, Samsung is free to create its own app store and digital assistant,” a Google spokesperson told Bloomberg. “That’s one of the great features of the Android platform. And while we regularly talk with partners about ways to improve the user experience, we have no plans to change that.”

“Samsung remains committed to our own ecosystem and services. At the same time, Samsung closely works with Google and other partners to offer the best mobile experiences for our users.”, said a spokesperson from Samsung on the deal.
