Highlights
- Spotify is one of the most effective music streaming platforms, but by default, it can feel a little dull.
- What if you had a way to change Spotify’s appearance entirely using custom themes, extensions, and utility tweaks?
- Yes, you can now do this with Spicetify. So, I have shared my personal experience using this amazing app to customize my Spotify app.

If you’re anything like me, music is an absolute passion for you — but let’s face it, the default Spotify aesthetic is a real snooze at best.
That’s where Spicetify comes into play! This brilliant tool allows you to overhaul almost every aspect of your Spotify interface, adding custom themes, extensions, and tweaks that make it yours.
So, in this guide, I’ll take you through all you need to know about Spicetify, what it is, how to install it, and how you can make your Spotify look insane!
What is Spicetify?
Spicetify is an open-source third-party command-line tool that enables customization of the Spotify desktop app unlike ever before. With Spicetify, you can:
- Custom themes for a whole new look on Spotify
- Customize UI elements to your taste.
- Use custom fonts and colors.
- Download some cool extensions to add more functions.
- Even enjoy an ad-free experience (yep, that’s right!)
Why I Love Spicetify
For years, I complained that Spotify could be more personalized, but there were no official customization options available.
Then, I found Spicetify, and that changed everything! And so now I can customize the theme of my Spotify to my mood, adjust the layout, and even have extra features that make browsing my playlists effortless.
Some Cool Things You Can Do:
- Transform the theme to match your aesthetic.
- Rearrange menus for better navigation.
- Add lyrics, advanced search, and more with extensions.
- Say goodbye to ads and other annoying elements.
How to Install Spicetify Spotify
Now, I know you may already be using Spicetify to customize your Spotify, but there are many new users who want to install it, and that’s why I thought it was good to explain a bit about the steps to install it on your Windows PC. So, here are some steps that you can follow:
Note: Make sure to uninstall the Spotify app if you have installed it from the Microsoft Store. Then, download and install it from Google directly. Initially, I made this mistake while installing Spicetify and ended up getting errors.
- Once you have installed Spotify from Google, go to Spicetify’s website and click on the Install Now button.
- Now, on the next page, under the Windows section, copy the command as shown in the image.
- After that, open the Windows PowerShell and paste & execute the command you have copied.
Windows
iwr -useb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spicetify/cli/main/install.ps1 | iex
MacOS
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spicetify/cli/main/install.sh | sh
- Now, it is totally up to you whether you want to install the Marketplace or not. I recommend you do so. If yes, then type Y in the PowerShell and then press Enter to start the marketplace installation.
- If you later decide to install the marketplace, go back to the Spotify website, from where you will get the code. Simply copy and paste into PowerShell.
Windows
iwr -useb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spicetify/marketplace/main/resources/install.ps1 | iex
MacOS
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spicetify/marketplace/main/resources/install.sh | sh
- That’s it. Now, you have installed Spicetify on your device. Now, whenever you open Spotify, you will see the shopping cart logo to the left of the sidebar.
How to Set Up Spicetify
Now, after installing the Marketplace, you can set up various themes, extensions, and apps without any hassle. So, here’s something that you can do, as I’ve also done this:
- Once you click on the Shopping cart icon, a tab will open with 4 options, i.e., Extensions, Themes, Snippets, and Apps.
- So, whatever functionalities you want, simply click on the Install button as shown in the image.
My Favorite Extensions:
- Full App Display – Displays the album art full-screen
- Lyrics Plus – Displays synced lyrics
- Custom Sidebar – Allows you to reorder sidebar components.
Tweaking Spotify with Spicetify Snippets
Spicetify includes Snippets, which allow you to modify or disable some features in the app. Finally, with these, I will fix the granular problems with the Spotify desktop app layout, which I find a very good addition.
As you see, I have changed the right and left sidebar places to change the icons that suit the UI.
Experimental Features: The App Tab
There are a lot of experimental and really out-there features packed into the App tab in Spicetify that you can add to Spotify. Some cool ones include:
- Visualizer App — Provides live visualizations while you are listening to your music.
- Statistics — An intuitive way to see your Spotify stats.
- History in Sidebar — Personal Favorites! It displays a list of all the songs you’ve played recently. Spotify has a built-in listening history now, but this app makes it much more consumer-friendly.
Ability to Block the Ads – I Like This Feature of Spicetify Market Most
Even after installing Spicetify, ads ruined my listening experience, but then I found a way to block ads. You can also do the same using these steps:
- Once you have Spicetify installed, go ahead and open Spotify on your computer.
- On the left sidebar, click on the shopping cart icon.
- Look up Adblockify under the Extensions tab and add it.
- You may need to restart your Spotify client to apply. After this, you won’t see any audio or video ads on Spotify.
How to uninstall Spicetify?
Although after using Spicetify, I don’t want to go back to the boring UI of Spotify, there are still many users who may not like Spicetify. So, if after installing, you find that you need the old Spotify UI, you can simply copy and paste these commands in PowerShell:
spicetify restore
rmdir -r -fo $env:APPDATA\\spicetify
rmdir -r -fo $env:LOCALAPPDATA\\spicetify
Sum Up | Customize Your Spotify With Spicetify
Spicetify changed the way I use Spotify forever! From elegant custom themes to robust extensions — it allows me to customize every small detail to fit my personal style.
Whether I want a cleaner layout, cool animations, or even a twerking Among Us character popping up on my seek bar, Spicetify can do it.
For those who enjoy a little more flair in their music, I really recommend giving Spicetify a go—especially if you want to break out of the Spotify mold.
It’s easy to set up, fun to use, and it pushes the visuals of Spotify to a whole new place. Trust me — you’ll never listen to Spotify the same way again!
