Snapdragon 778G vs 780G vs 768G
To give you a little context, Qualcomm is working hard to bring out some great processors in the 700 series of Snapdragon processors.
Earlier this year, Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 780G 5G processor. This is now followed by the launch of Snapdragon 778G which is a lower version of Snapdragon 780G and it is also a successor to Snapdragon 768G which was launched last year.
This is really great news for all the people who buy mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 700 series brings the best features of the Snapdragon 800 series in mid-range smartphones.
The suffix ‘G’ here stands for gaming so we can expect good gaming performance from these chips.

Now that we have gone through the very basic specifications, one clear thing is that the Snapdragon 778G and 780G are newer and more efficient chipsets for any smartphone.
CPU and GPU
Let’s talk about the CPU and GPU performance first. Well, the new Snapdragon 778G and 780G have the Kryo 670 CPU cores that come with the Hexagon 770 DSP to handle and boost the AI performance.
According to Qualcomm, the new Kryo 670 CPU cores give about a 40% performance boost over Snapdragon 768G which is quite significant.
The Snapdragon 778G is the newer processor and can support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, on the other hand, the Snapdragon 780G supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM.
The GPU is also upgraded on both of the newer processors compared to Snapdragon 768G which is also an upgrade.
Networks and Connectivity Features
Talking about networks, all of the above three processors have integrated 5G modems which is great as we are now slowly moving towards 5G.
So the older Snapdragon 768G comes with X52 5G modem and supports both sub-6 GHz and mmWave.
The interesting thing here to notice is that both Snapdragon 778G and 780G have the same X53 5G modem but Snapdragon 780G which is more premium only supports sub-6 GHz 5G. Whereas the Snapdragon 778G supports both sub-6 GHz 5G and mmWave as well.
One of the possible reasons for this could be that Snapdragon 778G is focused on the US market and the Snapdragon 780G is made for global markets.
On the connectivity end, the Snapdragon 768G only comes with Wi-Fi 6 ready feature. While the new chipsets that are both Snapdragon 780G and 778G come with the full support of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E.
All three chipsets come with Bluetooth 5.2 and NavIC. Overall, the new processors have better connectivity options.
Cameras and Display
The Snapdragon 768G supports Full HD+ screens with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The Snapdragon 780G and 778G boost this by supporting Full HD+ displays with a screen refresh rate of up to 144Hz.
Along with that, all three processors can process HDR10 and HDR10+ images.
You see, the chipset on your smartphone plays a very important role in processing the images. One of the things that you should notice for better images is ISP. If the ISP is more then there are better chances that you will get more good quality images.
Now, the Snapdragon 768G comes with Spectra 355 ISP. It can shoot up to 192-megapixels and it can also shoot in HDR.
The Snapdragon 780G comes with Spectra 570 ISP. It contains triple 14-bit ISPs which means that it has more processing power. Similar to Snapdragon 768G, it can also shoot up to 192-megapixels.
The Snapdragon 778G comes with Spectra 570L ISP, a little down-toned version of Spectra 570 ISP. It also comes with triple 14-bit ISPs.
One of the key differences between Snapdragon 778G vs 780G in terms of ISPs is that the Snapdragon 780G is better in AI computation and multi-frame processing.
