Various reports suggest that you will be seeing ads on WhatsApp too.

The Matter: WhatsApp May Introduce Ads

So the thing is that Facebook made a pretty decent investment when it acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion in 2014. Facebook is constantly working to monetize WhatsApp but there is no success in that matter so far.

This is mainly due to the internal conflicts and disagreements within the organization on whether to introduce ads or not on the messaging app. And as a result we hear the ads talk for WhatsApp every now and then.

Ad on Facebook, You might see similar Ads on WhatsApp too

The new reports suggest that WhatsApp may soon introduce ads once Facebook completes the process of completely linking Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp altogether. The only problem in showing ads on WhatsApp is that it is end-to-end encrypted so no one has any access to the content and therefore there can’t be targeted ads.

So then according to the reports, Facebook might use the data from the Facebook accounts of people and then show them targeted ads on WhatsApp, the only problem is that people might start deleting their Facebook accounts. Delete Facebook trends also gained popularity during the Cambridge Analytica controversy.

So this whole WhatsApp may introduce ads on the messaging app is still a long term plan and it is very likely that it will not happen. But if it does, we will most likely see people switching to other alternatives to WhatsApp.
