By Making Sure Outlook Isnโt Working in The Background
For a lot of users, this error generally occurs when they are trying to copy the PST file and MS Outlook or any other app associated with is still running in the background.
Make sure that Outlook isnโt running in the background. To do that you have to open the Task Manager and go to the Processes tab.
In the Processes tab, look for Outlook, if it is running, you can stop it by right-clicking on it and then clicking on the โEnd taskโ button.
A lot of users have also seen the error getting fixed when they close the Skype app from the background as well so you might as well try that too.
By Uninstalling MS Office Communicator
Step 1: Go to the Windows Search bar, type โRunโ and hit enter.
Step 2: In the Run window, type โappwiz.cplโ and hit enter.
Step 3: From the uninstaller windows, search for MS Office Communicator.
Step 4: If you see MS Office Communicator listed there, select it, right-click on it and click on โUninstallโ.
After successful uninstallation, you should not be facing the error again.
By Clean-Booting The Windows
Step 1: Go to the Windows Search bar, type โRunโ and hit enter.
Step 2: In the Run window, type โmsconfigโ and hit enter.
Step 3: From the new window, select โSelective startupโ.
Step 4: Untick the โLoad startup itemsโ checkbox.
Step 5: Tick the โLoad system servicesโ and โUse original boot configurationโ checkbox.
Step 6: In the โServicesโ tab, check the โHide all Microsoft servicesโ option and then click on โDisable allโ.
Step 7: Now you can Apply the setting and click on OK. Then you have to click on the โRestartโ option.
Thatโs it and now you can copy your Outlook PST file. For optimum performance, make sure to change these settings to normal once you copy the PST file.
By Booting Windows in Safe Mode
Step 1: Go to the Windows menu. Hold the shift key and click Restart.
Step 2: Upon restarting, go to Troubleshoot then navigate to Advanced options, click on See more recovery options. Finally, go to Startup Settings.
Step 3: Now click the โRestartโ button.
Step 4: When you see the Startup Settings list, press 4 key to select โEnable Safe Modeโ.
Thatโs it and now you can copy your PST file in Safe Mode.
By Removing the Outlookโs Search Email Indexer Add-in
Step 1: Click โFileโ in Outlook.
Step 2: Now click on the โOptionsโ button.
Step 3: From the left windows, click on โAdd-insโ.
Step 4: Click on โCom Add-insโ from the โManageโ drop-down menu, and then click on the โGoโ button.
Step 5: Now search for the โSearch Email Indexerโ add-in and click on the โRemoveโ button.
