Got error 70 while installing Gapps in TWRP? This error prompts up when your partition storage size is lesser than the size of the respective Gapps package.

Gapps are Google Apps, including the core Google application, like Gmail, YouTube, Google Play Store, Maps, etc., when you are flashing any custom ROM in your device, so due to some restrictions, GSuite apps aren’t pre-installed with third-party custom ROM’s.

To resolve the issue, the user often installs Gapps externally by using a flashable zip package file via custom recovery.

While installing Gapps, many people encountered certain errors like the โ€˜Updater process ended with an error: 70 error installing zip fileโ€™ or โ€˜Error Status 7 Installation abortedโ€™ or โ€˜zip signature verification failed TWRP.โ€™

Such glitches prevent you from a successful installation of a custom ROM.

Error 70 While Installing Gapps in TWRP

Here, in this post, we will discuss the causes of the error, and you can get out of it. So, let’s get started

Reasons for Error 70 While Installing Gapps in TWRP

The primary reason which causes the error 70 while installing Gapps in TWRP is lesser space in the device system partition.

That means you need to remove some apps and free some space so that the Open Gapps package can install. This issue is mainly observed with older Android devices with 2GB of storage or less.

Because custom ROM like Lineage OS is also installed in the system partition along with the Gapps package, and Android or tablet devices have fixed system partition space.

So, the device system partition size should be enough to store all the packages. Besides this, Gapp’s package size increases with updates.

So this makes it tough to flash the Gapps and resolve the error, but don’t worry, we will discuss some methods to help you resolve the error 70 while installing Gapps in TWRP.

The ‘resize’ action should really be called something else since it doesn’t do anything unless there’s unallocated partitions lying around. I nominate we call it autopoop.

If you actually want to resize, you’ll have to download a version of TWRP that has hh_repart. A version that worked for me is described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-unofficial-twrp-hh-for-nexus-5-hammerhead-discontinued.4047653 .. I used this custom TWRP: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hammerhead-twrp/ which successfully bumped my Nexus 5 from a 1GB to 1.44GB, enough to put on Lineage 18.1 and OpenGapps Arm 11.0 Pico.

  • I have the same problem with my Samsung Nexus 10! I install my rom from TWRP and when I want to install GApps I get error 70 ๐Ÿ™ could not resolve the problem.

    • Tom Tobblestop

You may want to try the solution I’ve commented below.

      Hi,

      Thanks for visiting TechLatest.

Trying to implement the above-mentioned solutions. These are tested solutions. Other than that you can install other gapps, like BitGapps, NiksGapps, etc.

      Cheers,

      • Thanks for your sharing. I flashed my old “XiaoMi 2S aries” and no Opengapps “pico” and BitGapps could be installed. After trying your recommendation to install NiksGapps, it works. Thanks again.
